The Pasqual Maragall Foundation presented in Pamplona one of the selected projects from the third edition of the Pasqual Maragall Researchers Programme (PMRP), an initiative aimed at promoting research on Alzheimer's Disease and other age-related neurodegenerative disorders.
The grant was awarded to researcher Maite Solas from the University of Navarra, whose work investigates how astrocyte metabolism—key cells for brain function—can be altered during Alzheimer’s disease and contribute to its progression. The project, developed in collaboration with Jordi Duran, aims to identify new strategies to slow down or even reverse early stages of the disease.
The event highlighted the importance of scientific research in advancing prevention and treatment, as well as supporting researchers across Spain. The initiative, co-funded by the Adey Foundation, has allocated €1.6 million to this edition of the program.
The session also included the talk “Alzheimer without myths,” focused on prevention, early diagnosis, and recent scientific advances, as part of a broader outreach program designed to promote healthy aging habits and improve public understanding of Alzheimer’s disease.
