Maite Solas, a researcher at the University of Navarra, explains that her team is trying to approach Alzheimer’s Disease from a different perspective, understanding it as a disorder linked to metabolism

Maite Solas focuses her research on detecting early changes in Alzheimer's Disease and finding ways to slow its progression. Her work studies astrocyte metabolism—cells that support and protect neurons—which offers a new way of understanding the disease and may lead to new prevention and treatment strategies.

She is a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra and leads a research group there. She recently received the Pasqual Maragall Researchers Programme grant, worth €800,000, awarded by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, which supports innovative projects on Alzheimer’s, the most common cause of dementia.

In this interview, she explains in detail the goals of her research and the importance of approaching Alzheimer’s from a metabolic perspective, offering a clearer understanding of the mechanisms behind the disease and its possible future treatments.
